Dear Donors,

The Brain Observatory is engaged in an extraordinary endeavor. We are building a library for the human brain, creating the potential to illustrate the detailed design of the brain, how its microscopic structure reflects who we are, and how the relationship between structure and behavior changes as we age or as we face the progression of neurological disease.

Your support is crucial to sustain the expansion of this neurological library established at UC San Diego. The collection will immortalize the case of the famous amnesic patient H.M. among other insightful neurological cases. The library will also include cases of ordinary, healthy people, because it is not feasible to characterize brain disease without a clear understanding of how the brain matures normally during life. We strive to preserve and examine as many cases as possible. This is an extremely labor-intensive and expensive process, but we believe this work is both timely and necessary to provide the knowledge to support current neuroscientific research. The legacy of the UC San Diego Brain Library lies in the fact that it will continue to be useful to future generations of scientists, whom will approach the study of the brain with the benefit of new technologies and new theories of function and disease.

Thank you for your support,
